Thoughts on notable stages that didn’t create my ranking:
As usual, SBS’s year-end festival falls on Christmas day. Because of this, the themes have been getting more and more holiday-focused with each passing year. Everyone and their mother performed a “Christmas version” of their songs tonight, but you don’t acquire to call something a “Christmas version” just because you throw sleigh bells on the footpath for five seconds during the intro! I’m definitely looking for a bigger reinterpretation than that, meaning arrangements that took bigger risks rank higher on my list – even if those risks didn’t quite pay off. And to be decent, not many did. Shoehorning Christmas into songs that possess nothing to act with the holiday is often grating and grows very tiresome for three hours straight.
To assuage this fear of repetition, SBS themed tonight “Merry & Freaky Christmas.” I still can’t think this is what they decided to go with. It’s a strange expression, to be sure, and something I’d be happy to never hear again. I’ll also be good without sleigh bells for awhile. Maybe after this year SBS shouldn’t lean so far into Christmas. It’s too limiting and results in weird conceptual mash-ups or

SBS wrapped up the first half of 2024 with a festive summer celebration!
On July 21, the first-ever SBS Gayo Daejeon Summer was held at the INSPIRE Arena in Seoul. While SBS Gayo Daejeon has always been held at the end of the year, SBS Gayo Daejeon Summer is a new midyear special that kicks off the second half of the year with special performances by a star-studded lineup of artists.
The 2024 SBS Gayo Daejeon Summer was hosted by NCT’s Doyoung, IVE’s An Yu Jin, and TXT’s Yeonjun, all of whom are former “Inkigayo” MCs. An Yu Jin and Yeonjun also previously hosted the 2023 SBS Gayo Daejeon together at the end of last year.
