A Look at Davenport’s History
Davenport’s modern-day history began when the area was acquired as part of the Louisiana Purchase in the early 1800s. Davenport itself was established in 1836 by Antoine LeClaire, who named the capital after his friend, Colonel George Davenport. The town was named as Iowa’s first military headquarters during the Civil War, and it grew quickly from that point on, particularly experiencing an economic boom in the 1920s. Throughout the years, Davenport has grown in diversity, and today is vibrant, and thriving city with plenty of opportunities and much to see and execute for all who ring it home.
